WWE SmackDown's latest episode, coming with just two shows left for the year and marking the final two-hour episodes for the foreseeable future, kicked off with highlights from Saturday Night’s Main Event. One of the notable moments was Kevin Owens attacking Cody Rhodes after the broadcast ended. The commentary teased an update on the Undisputed WWE Champion, leading to an energetic start with competitors arriving.
The Bloodline, led by Solo Sikoa, made their way to the ring. Solo addressed Roman Reigns' challenge for Tribal Combat on Raw, declaring that he would defeat Reigns on January 6. He added that he would leave his Bloodline behind if Roman kept his crew away. Solo's speech was interrupted by Drew McIntyre, who criticised Solo for costing him a shot at the Undisputed Championship. Drew and Solo exchanged words, with Drew suggesting they could settle things after Solo dealt with Roman. The encounter escalated into a chaotic brawl when Jimmy Uso attacked McIntyre, leading to LA Knight, Apollo Crews, and Andrade rushing to the ring for a six-man match.
Match 1: The Bloodline vs. LA Knight, Apollo Crews, and Andrade
The match, filled with intense back-and-forth action, featured high-flying moments from Crews and Andrade, with the Bloodline attempting to interfere. After several tags, the Bloodline gained control, and Solo hit a Samoan Spike on Andrade for the pinfall victory, giving The Bloodline the win.
Backstage Segment
The Motor City Machine Guns, ahead of Alex Shelley’s match with Johnny Gargano, had an interview where Shelley promised payback against Gargano, telling his partner Chris Sabin to stay backstage. This set the stage for the highly anticipated grudge match.
Video Package
A highlight reel showed Chelsea Green becoming the inaugural Women’s United States Champion during Saturday Night’s Main Event. Green, in a subsequent interview, expressed her joy over the victory, declaring it was her time.
Kevin Owens Segment
Kevin Owens, in a video package, claimed responsibility for his actions after his confrontation with Cody Rhodes. He blamed WWE management for the situation and vowed to keep the Winged Eagle title until he got what he deserved.
Grayson Waller Effect
Grayson Waller hosted Braun Strowman on his show, where tensions quickly flared. After some taunts and an attempt by Waller and Austin Theory to form an alliance with Strowman, Carmelo Hayes interrupted, challenging Strowman to a rematch after their last encounter. The two set up for a match.
Match 2: Carmelo Hayes vs. Braun Strowman
The match was a back-and-forth affair, with Strowman showing his dominance. However, Hayes used his speed to counter Strowman, eventually winning by count-out after a chaotic sequence outside the ring.
Backstage Segment
Nia Jax and Candice LeRae prepared for their tag team title shot against Bianca Belair and Naomi, while Tiffany Stratton offered her support to Nia and Candice, though they wanted her to stay away for this match.
Match 3: WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship Match
Bianca Belair and Naomi defended their titles against Nia Jax and Candice LeRae. The match saw lots of action, with Nia and Candice trying to outmanoeuvre the champions. However, in the final moments, interference from Tiffany Stratton backfired when she handed Nia Jax a weapon that the referee caught. This allowed Naomi to hit a split-legged moonsault for the win, retaining the tag titles for herself and Bianca.
The show closed with Bianca and Naomi celebrating their victory while Nia Jax, Candice LeRae, and Tiffany Stratton regrouped on the outside. The episode wrapped up with a reminder that the year’s final WWE SmackDown and two-hour episode is soon approaching, marking the end of an era.
