Leaders across the world congratulated Donald Trump on his scintillating victory in the US presidential elections. While European leaders were prompt in extending their best wishes, Russia held a cold-shouldered tone.

China

During a press briefing, China foreign ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning hoped for a ‘peaceful coexistence’ with the United States.

Russia

Moscow's foreign ministry said, “We are under no illusions about the American President-elect.” It said that it will ‘work with’ the newly-formed government to achieve ‘set goals’ in Ukraine. However, it also reiterated that the ‘conditions’ regarding the Ukraine conflict remain unchanged.

India

PM Narendra Modi extended his ‘heartfelt congratulation’ to Trump, while referring him ‘my friend’

Israel

Describing Trump’s victory as ‘history's greatest comeback’, Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu said, “new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America.”

Ukraine

President Volodymyr Zelensky congratulated Donald Trump on his ‘impressive victory’. He said on a social media post, “I appreciate President Trump's commitment to the 'peace through strength' approach in global affairs.”

NATO

NATO chief Mark Rutte, “His leadership will again be key to keeping our Alliance strong. I look forward to working with him again to advance peace through strength through NATO.”

United Nations (UN)

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a statement that the peacekeeper is ‘ready to work constructively with the incoming administration to address the dramatic challenges our world is facing.’

European Union (EU)

EU chief Ursula von der Leyen while congratulating Trump on his victory posted on X (formerly Twitter), “We are bound by a true partnership between our people, uniting 800 million citizens. Let's work together on a strong transatlantic agenda that keeps delivering for them.”
