The previous administration of President-elect Donald Trump was challenging for students and work visa holders, marked by numerous visa rejections and Requests for Evidence (RFEs). Many students faced intense scrutiny during immigration processes.

With Trump set to assume office on January 20, companies and universities are advising employees and students currently abroad to return to the US before that date. The viral nature of these advisories reflects widespread concerns about potential immigration policy changes under the new administration.

In a notable instance, an investment firm recently sent an email to its employees who are not US citizens or green card holders. The email urged them to complete any travel and return to the US by January 19th or 20th, 2025, if possible.

“Given the recent US election and the upcoming change in administration, we anticipate possible changes to immigration policies,” the email stated.

The company further advised employees to apply for a visa stamp at a US Embassy or Consulate during their holiday travels and to schedule their consular interviews on or before January 3rd, 2025. Those with appointments after this date were recommended to reschedule for an earlier slot if possible.

It appears that companies are taking significant precautions to prepare for potential immigration policy shifts under the incoming Trump administration.
