US President Donald Trump has assured that efforts are underway to bring home two astronauts who are stranded on the International Space Station (ISS) for months. He said that Elon Musk's SpaceX will “soon” launch a rescue mission without mentioning the timeline.

Previously, Nasa astronauts Butch Wilmore and Sunita Williams arrived at the ISS in June. However, what was supposed to be an eight-day stay got extended by more than 7 months as the Boeing Starliner spacecraft faced technical issues, thereby forcing NASA to delay their return.

Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I have just asked Elon Musk and SpaceX to “go get” the 2 brave astronauts who have been virtually abandoned in space by the Biden Administration. They have been waiting for many months on Space Station.”

He added, “Elon will soon be on his way. Hopefully, all will be safe. Good luck Elon!!!”

Elon Musk who became a key figure during Donald Trump's Presidential campaign confirmed on X stating that the President has given him the task to expedite SpaceX’s rescue mission.

The space technology company has been running rotations to and from the ISS every six months. Moreover, Wilmore and Williams are keeping up in good health as NASA has assured to maintain ample supplies of basic necessities.
