September 2024 Supermoon and Partial Lunar Eclipse: Visibility, Timing

This month, the full moon is special as it is likely to undergo a partial lunar eclipse. The full moon will occur on September 17, 2024.
This year, a total of four supermoons will occur in 2024, happening in August, September, October, and November.
The first supermoon of 2024, which occurred in August, was a super blue moon. The second supermoon, occurring on September 17, is a super harvest moon.
A 'supermoon' is a full moon that looks larger and brighter because the moon is at its closest point to Earth, known as perigee, in its orbit.
At these times, the moon can appear a little larger in the sky, though the difference is often small and hard to notice with the naked eye.
Can we see it from India?
The supermoon can be seen from most of North America, South America, and Europe. It can also be visible from the easternmost part of Africa, western parts of Asia and Russia, and some areas of Antarctica. Unfortunately, it will not be visible from India.
On September 17, observers in the US can see it around 10:44 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time.
People living in Europe and Africa can witness the eclipse during the pre-dawn hours on September 18.
For observers in London, the eclipse will appear on September 18, around 3:45 a.m. British Standard Time.
