Russia launched a scathing attack on Ukraine by firing one of its largest missiles leaving many dead, Associated Press reported.

The attack took place on a nine-story residential building killing about eight people leaving many injured, said Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. About 400 residents were evacuated from the region.

Russia launched 120 missiles and 90 drones, which included Iranian-made Shaheds. Out of 210 aerial threats, air defences averted 144, but an attack on energy infrastructure led to power outages in several regions including Odesa. About two people were killed and six were injured in Mykolaiv, Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said.

While urging Western allies to strengthen Ukraine’s air defence system to prevent future attacks Zelenskyy said, “The enemy’s target was our energy infrastructure.”

The US also gave a green light to Ukraine to use long-range missiles. Zelenskyy said, “Strikes are not made with words… the missiles will speak for themselves.”

The Russian Defence Ministry claimed responsibility for the attack by targeting Ukraine’s ‘critical energy infrastructure’.
