Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy criticizes $220 million deal with Pakistan-owned hotel in New York
In a recent post on X, Republican leader and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy expressed his outrage over a reported deal in which New York City taxpayers are allegedly paying $220 million to the Roosevelt Hotel, which is owned by the Pakistani government. Ramaswamy's comments were in response to a post by New York-based author John LeFevre, who claimed that this arrangement was part of a recent IMF bailout package.
"This is nuts!" Ramaswamy exclaimed on X, echoing the sentiments shared by LeFevre. According to LeFevre, the Roosevelt Hotel, which is serving as an intake center for migrants, is being funded by New York City taxpayers. He highlighted that the hotel, which had been closed since 2020 and needed renovations, is now effectively receiving funds from New Yorkers to house migrants, with the revenue ultimately benefiting the Pakistani government.
LeFevre's post included a screenshot from Geo TV, where Pakistan's Railway Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique discussed the deal. The minister reportedly mentioned that the agreement, which is part of a $1.1 billion IMF bailout package, would generate approximately $220 million in revenue for Pakistan. The lease, covering 1,250 rooms, is set for three years, after which the hotel will revert to the Pakistani government.
This revelation comes amidst ongoing discussions about illegal immigration in the United States. President-elect Donald Trump has repeatedly emphasized the need to control illegal migration, making it a central theme of his presidential campaign. The deal with the Roosevelt Hotel adds another layer to the debate, raising concerns about the use of taxpayer money and the implications of international agreements on domestic policies.
In addition to his political activities, Ramaswamy, along with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has been appointed to lead a new “Department of Government Efficiency.” Their mandate includes reducing excess regulations, cutting wasteful expenditures, and restructuring Federal Agencies to enhance operational efficiency.
