New Orleans, January 2, 2025
In a tragic event on New Year’s Eve, a US army veteran drove a rented pickup truck into a crowd of revelers in New Orleans, resulting in the deaths of at least 15 people and injuries to dozens more. The incident, which has left the nation in shock, was condemned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a "cowardly terrorist attack."
In a message on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi expressed his condolences: "We strongly condemn the cowardly terrorist attack in New Orleans. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. May they find strength and solace as they heal from this tragedy."
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has identified the attacker as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US citizen from Texas. Jabbar, who was reportedly carrying an Islamic State flag, had served as an IT specialist in the military and was working as a real estate agent in Houston.
This devastating attack has prompted calls for increased security measures during public celebrations, as authorities continue to investigate Jabbar’s motives and any potential links to terrorist organizations.
