PM Modi addresses 'Hala Modi' event in Kuwait: witnessing Mini-Hindustan here
Prime Minister Narendra Modi landed in Kuwait on Saturday for a historic two-day visit at the invitation of Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, the Amir of Kuwait. This marks the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Kuwait in 43 years, following Indira Gandhi's visit.
During his visit, PM Modi addressed the Indian community at the 'Hala Modi' event held at the Shaikh Saad Al Abdullah Indoor Sports Complex in Kuwait City. He expressed his joy at seeing the diversity of Indians in Kuwait, describing the gathering as a "mini-Hindustan."
"Just 2–2.5 hours ago, I arrived in Kuwait, and ever since setting foot here, I have felt an extraordinary sense of belonging and warmth all around. You all have come from various states of India, but seeing you here feels like a 'Mini Hindustan' has gathered before me," PM Modi said.
Highlighting the deep-rooted historical ties between India and Kuwait, PM Modi mentioned the robust trade relations between the two countries even in the 19th century. He recalled how Kuwaiti traders learned Gujarati, wrote books in it, and traded their world-famous pearls in Indian markets, emphasizing the long-lasting relationship between the two nations.
The Prime Minister also noted the significance of his visit, pointing out that it took 43 years for an Indian PM to visit Kuwait. "Today, personally, this moment is very special for me. After 43 years, more than four decades, a PM of India has come to Kuwait. For you all, coming to India takes four hours, but for the PM, it took four decades," he remarked.
PM Modi emphasized that India has the skills, technology, innovation, and manpower that 'New' Kuwait needs. He mentioned that both nations are focusing on innovation and strengthening their economies.
Recalling the Covid-19 pandemic, PM Modi thanked Kuwait for its support, specifically for sending liquid oxygen supplies to India during the crisis. "I remember that Kuwait sent us liquid oxygen supply when we were going through the Covid-19 pandemic. We are very grateful," he said.
During his visit, PM Modi is scheduled to meet the Emir, the Crown Prince, and the Prime Minister of Kuwait. He will also attend the opening ceremony of the Gulf Cup football tournament.
