Jagjit Pavadia Secures Re-election to International Narcotics Control Board

India's external affairs minister Mr. S. Jaishankar announced that a former Indian Revenue Service officer - Jagjit Pavadia has been re-elected to the International Narcotics Control Board based in Vienna. Pavadia, aged 70, previously served as president of the board from 2021 to 2022 and has now been re-elected for the term 2025-2030.
Jaishankar shared the news on Monday night, stating that India's nominee, Ms. Jagjit Pavadia, secured re-election in New York to the INCB. He highlighted that India received the highest number of votes among all the elected member states, showcasing widespread support.
The external affairs minister commended the efforts of the ministry of external affairs and the permanent mission of India to the UN for their contributions to this achievement. India's representation on the International Narcotics Control Board also played a crucial role in this success.
Pavadia's career spans 35 years in the Indian Revenue Service, holding various senior positions. She has been a member of the INCB since 2015 and has held significant roles within the organization, including Second Vice-President, Vice-Chair, Chair, and member of the Standing Committee on Estimates on different occasions. Significance of India's continued presence on the International Narcotics Control Board is crucial for addressing global drug control challenges and shaping international policies in drug control efforts.
Established in 1968, the INCB serves as an independent and quasi-judicial monitoring body for enforcing UN international drug control conventions.
