Indian Embassy rescues 67 nationals from cyber scam centres in Lao PDR’s Golden Triangle Zone
Vientiane, January 27, 2025 – The Embassy of India in Laos has successfully rescued 67 Indian nationals who had fallen victim to cyber scams in the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone (GTSEZ) in Laos. These individuals, mostly young people, were trafficked and misled by fraudulent employment agencies.
In an official statement released on January 27, 2025, the Indian embassy confirmed that they were immediately alerted by the victims, who had requested help. Embassy officials responded without delay, offering necessary assistance and coordinating with local authorities. A dedicated team of embassy personnel traveled to the GTSEZ to work alongside Lao authorities, handling the necessary procedures and paperwork to facilitate the individuals’ safe departure from the scam centres.
Once the required steps were completed, the victims were able to leave the Golden Triangle Special Economic Zone and make their way to the Indian embassy in Vientiane.
The Lao authorities are currently collaborating with the Indian embassy to ensure the safe return of these 67 individuals to India, bringing an end to their harrowing ordeal.
