Bangladesh defeated India by 59 runs to successfully defend their title in the 2024 U19 Asia Cup final. Chasing a modest target of 199, India were bowled out for 139 in just 35.2 overs. The Bangladeshi bowlers dominated, with Iqbal Hossain Emon and Md Azizul Hakim Tamim claiming three wickets each to dismantle India’s batting lineup.

Earlier, Bangladesh struggled to build partnerships after losing both openers early. However, a vital 62-run stand between Mohammad Shihab James (40) and Mohammad Rizan Hossan (47) helped them recover, along with a useful 39 from Farid Hasan Faysal. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, they managed to post a total of 198. For India, Yudhajit Guha, Chetan Sharma, and Kiran Chormale each picked up two wickets, keeping Bangladesh under control.

In response, India’s chase faltered from the start. The opening pair of Aryan Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi both fell early to disciplined Bangladeshi bowling. India’s middle order struggled under pressure, and despite a fighting knock from captain Mohammad Amaan, who contributed 30 runs, they fell short of the target. Iqbal Hossain Emon’s brilliant bowling, combined with tight fielding, restricted India’s progress.

Bangladesh maintained their composure throughout, with sharp fielding and key breakthroughs. As India crumbled under pressure, Chetan Sharma’s dismissal in the final over sealed Bangladesh’s victory. The win marked a historic moment for Bangladesh, claiming back-to-back titles in the U19 Asia Cup and proving their dominance in youth cricket.

Post-Match Reactions:

Bangladesh captain Azizul Hakim Tamim expressed his confidence in the team’s bowlers, saying they were prepared to defend even low scores. He praised the collective effort and thanked the crowd for their support.

Indian captain Mohammad Amaan acknowledged the team’s inability to capitalize on partnerships, despite having the depth in batting, and accepted that the better team won on the day.

Awards:

Iqbal Hossain Emon was named Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance and also received the Player of the Series award for taking 13 wickets throughout the tournament.

As Bangladesh celebrated their triumph, India, despite their valiant bowling effort, were left to reflect on missed opportunities. The victory crowned Bangladesh as the most successful team in the tournament’s history, further cementing their legacy in youth cricket.
