The Indian cricket team will enter the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 as the top ranked team as they held onto the top spot in the latest rankings that were released on Wednesday.

India with 264 rating points lead the table with Australia, who won the ICC T20 World Cup in 2021, coming second with 257 points. Defending champions England are third with 254 points while West Indies, who have aced the tournament twice, come fourth with 252 rating points.

New Zealand are fifth with 250 rating points while Pakistan edged ahead of South Africa on decimal points after both teams were on 244 points.

The big gainers in the latest rankings are West Indies players after their superb performances over South Africa. Opening batter Brandon King is now ranked eight, moving up five places, after a scintillating series with the bat with 159 runs.

Johnson Charles, who scored 69 off 26 balls in the third T20I against South Africa, moved 17 places to be ranked 20th.

Kyle Mayers is now ranked 31, a movement of 12 places, after his good performance with the bat against South Africa where he amassed 102 runs in total.

The biggest gainer was left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie, who jumped a whopping 84 places, to be ranked 27th now after his eight-wicket haul in the series.

The latest rankings also take into consideration the matches between Bangladesh and the USA and the series between England and Pakistan.

The biggest gainers in the England vs Pakistan series are England skipper Jos Buttler, Jonny Bairstow and Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman. Buttler is now ranked seventh, while Bairstow moved eight places to be ranked 36th while Zaman is now ranked 51 in the world.

In the bowling department, left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi moved three spots to be ranked 11th in the world while Imad Wasim is now ranked 38th.

In the USA vs Bangladesh series, USA batter Steven Taylore jumped 28 places to be ranked 109 in the world while Bangladesh’s Rishad Hussain moved 38 places to 52nd in the bowling rankings.
