Hyderabad food delivery executive dies in Riyadh while rushing to deliver iftar order

A Hyderabad native working as a food delivery executive in Riyadh lost his life in a tragic accident while hurrying to deliver an Iftar parcel.
Mohammed Maqsood Hussain, 33, from Jahanuma, Hyderabad, was riding his motorcycle when he collided with another vehicle in heavy traffic on March 18. He fell off his bike and died on the spot. His body is expected to be repatriated to India soon.
Hussain was working as a delivery rider for a major food delivery app but through a sub-contractor rather than as a direct employee. Many Indian workers, drawn to the Gulf’s booming food delivery industry, face challenging conditions, with long hours, low wages, and little job security.
“It’s difficult for these workers to leave their jobs and return home due to contractual obligations,” said Abdul Jabbar, a Hyderabadi social worker in Riyadh. He highlighted that several other delivery riders from Hyderabad remain stranded in Saudi Arabia, working under sub-contracting firms without proper employment verification.
The incident sheds light on the risks faced by migrant delivery workers, who often navigate dangerous roads under tight deadlines, especially during peak hours like Iftar.
