Germany Christmas Market Attack: 50-year-old Saudi Doctor Behind the Carnage

A devastating tragedy struck Germany during the Christmas market, leaving the globe stunned. The incident on December 20 claimed the lives of two people and injured nearly 60 others. The perpetrator of the crime has been identified as Taleb, a 50-year-old Saudi doctor.

Now, who is Taleb?

Taleb, whose full name has not been released, is a 50-year-old Saudi national who has been living in Saxony-Anhalt for several years. He was a psychiatrist by profession and had been working at a hospital in Germany.

According to Reiner Haseloff, Saxony-Anhalt State Governor, “We have caught the perpetrator. He is a doctor from Saudi Arabia who has been working here in Saxony-Anhalt and has been in Germany since 2006.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, who was expected to travel to Magdeburg on Saturday, condoled the deaths and said it "raises the worst fears."

"My thoughts are with the victims and their families. We stand by their side and by the side of the people of Magdeburg. My thanks go to the dedicated rescue workers in these anxious hours," he said.

The international community has also condemned the attack, with officials around the world expressing their solidarity with the people of Germany.

Commenting on the incident, the US stated that it is "shocked and saddened" by the occurrence and has offered support in recovery operations. "The United States is ready to provide assistance as recovery efforts continue and authorities investigate this horrible incident," said State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller.
