Get ready, skywatchers! The first solar eclipse of 2025 is happening on March 29. However, this will be a partial solar eclipse, meaning the Moon will cover only a portion of the Sun. While it’s an exciting celestial event, India won't get to see it this time.

When and Where Will the Eclipse Be Visible?

The partial eclipse will be visible across several parts of the world, including Asia, Africa, Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, North America, and South America. Among these, North America will have the best view since the eclipse will happen around sunrise there.

Eclipse Timings in India (IST)

Even though it won't be visible in India, here’s when the eclipse will take place according to Indian Standard Time (IST):

Starts: 2:20 PM

Maximum Eclipse: 4:17 PM

Ends: 4:13 PM

Duration: About 4 hours

What Makes It a Partial Solar Eclipse?

A solar eclipse happens when the Moon moves between the Earth and the Sun. If the Moon completely covers the Sun, it’s called a total solar eclipse. But in this case, only a part of the Sun will be covered, making it a partial solar eclipse.

Fun fact: A lunar eclipse usually follows a solar eclipse within two weeks, or vice versa!

Safety Reminder!

Unlike a lunar eclipse, which is safe to watch with the naked eye, never look directly at a solar eclipse without proper eye protection. Staring at the Sun can damage your eyesight permanently. Use solar viewing glasses or indirect viewing methods to safely enjoy the spectacle.

While this eclipse won’t be visible in India, space enthusiasts can still follow live streams and updates from global observatories. Mark your calendars for this cosmic event!
