Elon Musk’s DOGE poll sparks debate amid government efficiency controversy

Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, recently stirred discussions on X (formerly Twitter) with a poll about the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). The poll asked users: "Do you support @DOGE reducing government waste & fraud?" and offered three response options—‘Yes,’ ‘No,’ and ‘Super Yes.’
Strong Support for DOGE in Musk’s Poll
Since its launch on March 7, the poll has attracted around 1,375,466 votes. The results show overwhelming support:
42.6% voted ‘Super Yes’
38.8% voted ‘Yes’
18.6% opposed it with ‘No’
Criticism and Controversy Surrounding DOGE
The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was created through an executive order during the Trump administration to streamline federal operations and cut waste. However, it has faced growing criticism for its aggressive cost-cutting tactics, alleged overreach, and lack of transparency in workforce reductions.
One major point of contention is DOGE’s "What did you do last week?" email, which required federal employees to report their weekly accomplishments—a move some critics argue is excessive.
Musk’s Role & Legal Uncertainty
Musk’s deep involvement in federal cost-cutting measures, including significant layoffs, has sparked concerns about conflicts of interest. His business dealings with the government, combined with President Trump’s recent remarks calling Musk the ‘leader’ of DOGE, have intensified speculation about his influence in government decision-making.
Despite mounting criticism, Trump clarified that staffing decisions ultimately rest with Cabinet secretaries—not Musk. However, the ongoing lawsuits and scrutiny over DOGE’s operations have raised questions about its future and Musk’s true level of authority in federal governance.
With legal battles brewing and public opinion divided, Musk’s DOGE debate is far from over.
