Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to Lead Trump’s New ‘Department of Government Efficiency
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump has announced that Elon Musk will lead a newly created "Department of Government Efficiency" in his administration—a role Trump alluded to during his campaign. Musk will share this responsibility with Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy.
“These two outstanding Americans will spearhead efforts to dismantle bureaucratic red tape, eliminate unnecessary regulations, reduce government spending, and reform federal agencies—key elements of the ‘Save America’ initiative,” Trump stated in an official announcement.
Trump expressed confidence in Musk and Ramaswamy's ability to transform federal operations to be more efficient, improving government functionality for all Americans. He noted that they would work to eliminate "massive waste and fraud" in government programs.
This announcement follows Trump’s recent presidential victory over Democratic candidate Kamala Harris by a margin of 69 electoral votes. During his victory speech, Trump commended Musk as a "brilliant, super-genius" and highlighted Musk’s involvement on the campaign trail. The tech billionaire reportedly spent two weeks in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania, actively campaigning with Trump.
"We have a new star—a true visionary: Elon," Trump remarked to his supporters. "He was right there, campaigning in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania."
Musk, a vocal supporter of Trump, played a significant role in the campaign, contributing over $100 million to Trump’s re-election efforts and advocating on social media via X (formerly Twitter). On November 9, Trump further solidified Musk’s position in his administration by including him in a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. According to reports, Zelensky thanked Musk for his Starlink support in Ukraine, though the primary discussion was between Zelensky and Trump.
