Donald Trump's proposal to "take over" the Gaza Strip and resettle its Palestinian residents has been strongly rejected by several countries. The suggestion, made during a White House news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on February 4, 2025, proposed that the U.S. would assume responsibility for the region, dismantle dangerous unexploded weapons, clear rubble, and establish economic development to create jobs.

However, his plan faced backlash from global leaders. UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy emphasized that Palestinians should be able to live in their own homeland, while German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock stated that Gaza belongs to the Palestinians and should not be permanently occupied or repopulated. Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva called the proposal "incomprehensible," questioning where Palestinians would go, and noted that it makes no sense. France condemned the idea, labeling any forced displacement of Palestinians as a violation of international law.

Russia, aligning with the majority of international actors, reiterated support for a two-state solution. Palestinian militant group Hamas also strongly opposed the proposal, calling it a move that would intensify Middle East tensions. They warned that the Palestinian people would never allow foreign occupation of their land.

The global consensus remains that Gaza should remain under Palestinian control, with international efforts focused on reconstruction and support for a future Palestinian state.
