Child Rape Scandal Dominates UK Politics Following Musk’s Criticism; Know Key Details

Following criticism from Elon Musk, a child sexual abuse scandal that entails how gangs of primarily Pakistani men, who had groomed, trafficked and raped young white girls more than a decade ago, has come to light ringing alarm bells in the Britain politics.

Musk has criticised Prime Minister Keir Starmer and urged him to quit, reflecting his failure to tackle the scandal when he was country’s leading prosecutor. He accused him of being “complicit in the rape of Britain.”

What’s the scandal all about?

As per a report in 2014, more than 1400 girls were sexually abused in the town of Rotherham lasting from 1997 till 2013.

The report said that girls as young as 11 years old were raped by large number of male participants. Local officials were under the impression that children were having consensual sex.

The report also said that the majority of the perpetrators belonged to Pakistani origin. In many cases local officials as well as other agencies have been reluctant to identify ethnic origins as it might give rise racial discrimination.

Did Keir Starmer play a key role?

Starmer served as director of public prosecutions between 2008 and 2013. He said on Monday that he had tackled the issue and brought prosecution to the accused gang members and had the highest number of child sexual abuse cases being prosecuted when he left the role.
