Following Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, a significant surge in demand for abortion pills has been reported. Local media outlets have revealed that more than 10,000 requests were made within just one day. Experts suggest this spike in demand is driven by rumours that Trump may restrict abortion rights once he assumes office.

According to reports, the number of requests for abortion pills increased by 17 times the usual daily demand after Trump's election win. Shockingly, some requests were made by non-pregnant women seeking prescriptions. An NGO revealed that out of 125 orders, 22 came from women who were not pregnant. Additionally, a charity noted that before the election, their website received about 4,000 to 4,500 visits daily for information on abortion pills, but this figure skyrocketed to over 82,000 daily visits following the election. Visitors have also been seeking information on contraceptives and vasectomy surgeries.

Brittany Fonteno, president of the National Abortion Federation, believes the rush to stockpile pills stems from fears that abortion rights may be revoked once Trump takes office. This is not the first time abortion pills have seen a surge in demand. Similar stockpiling occurred in May 2022 when there were movements to restrict abortion laws, causing a tenfold increase in demand for the pills.
