A delegation from the General Insurance Employees' All India Association (GIEAIA), representing Class 1, 3, and 4 employees, met with Nagaraju Maddirala, Secretary of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), and Prashant Goyal, Joint Secretary of DFS, to discuss issues related to wage revision. Maddirala said, “It is in our priority list and is under consideration”.

The GIEAIA team sought an early settlement of WR and parity with LIC across all PSGICs, GIC Re and agriculture insurance, to which the DFS Secretary was ‘very positive’ to their concerns and assured to look into the employer's contribution to NPS@14 per cent.

Talking to Bizz Buzz after the meeting, Trilok Singh, General Secretary GIEAIA Class III & IV, said, “We reiterated our demand for adequate recruitment in all cadres and recruitment of skilled marketing forces immediately. The DFS secretary was very positive and informed us that DFS has already given the go-ahead to all companies to make recruitments as per their needs looking at their financial positions. He appreciated our concern on the ‘one company’issue.”

He was presented a book on ‘Single Monolithic Corporation’, published by GIEAIA long back. He appreciated the fact that such an idea had been evolved by a trade union long back. It has become the need of the hour in the present scenario, Maddiral said.

Darshan Wadhwa, Secretary General, GIEAIA Class- 1 wing, said, “On our request for granting recognition to GIEAIA, Maddiral assured us to look into it as per prescribed norms. He appreciated our concerns and promised to take remedial steps for which he sought our cooperation.”

“The DFS Secretary gave a patient hearing and acknowledged our take on the irrational closure and merger of offices, especially on the grounds of scarcity of manpower. He agreed to our suggestions for opening offices in unrepresented areas so as to make general insurance reach people in every nook and corner,” he said.

On his part the Maddiral said that appropriate steps would be taken in this regard in consultation with officials from the Ministry of Health.
