Waltair Railway Division handles record cargo

Visakhapatnam: WALTAIR Division, part of East Coast Railway (ECoR) zone, has achieved best-ever freight loading during the period from April to August in the current financial year.

Despite the pandemic, Waltair Division has made consistent efforts to continue the supply chain to various parts of the country, according to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager AK Tripathi.

In the first two quarters, from April-2021 to August-2021 Waltair Division has loaded 26.71 million tonnes of freight, which is 6.82 MT (34.3 per cent) more than the loading of 19.89 MT during the same period in the last financial year.

This is the highest-ever loading of the division during this period. The previous best was 26.61 MT during April-August-19.

The revenue generated by originating freight loading in the period from April to August-2021 was Rs 3,090 crore, which is Rs 773.30 crore (33.4 per cent) more than the revenue generated for the corresponding period in the last fiscal. The revenue generated during the corresponding period last year was Rs 2316.70 crore.

During April to August-2021 Indian Railways has done an incremental loading of 131.00 MT out of which 6.82 MT (5.21 per cent) has been contributed by Waltair Division.
