Visakhapatnam: Relentless efforts by the materials management department of Waltair Division, part of East Coast Railway Zone, to segregate the unused and unserviceable materials fetched a big amount.

The department sold the scrap that set record highest revenue in a single auction in the history of Waltair Division, which was Rs13.2 crore on Wednesday. The division has fetched Rs 89.13 crore through open auction during 2021-22.

The remarkable performance could be achieved under dynamic leadership of Anup Kumar Satpathy, Divisional Railway Manager and exercise done by KB Tirupataiah, Senior Divisional Materials Manager of Waltair Division, according to a release,

Amid the pandemic, Waltair Division has adopted several innovative measures. On the line to generate additional revenue, the materials management department of Waltair Division initiated several new ways through the sale of scrap released from various activities of the Railways during the pandemic. The auctions were carried out 100 percent online, where anybody from any corner of the country could participate. Released materials from tracks such as unserviceable rails were sold in this e-auction.
