Visakhapatnam: Setting a new trend, the Waltair division belonging to the Bhubaneswar-headquartered East Coast Railway (ECoR) has achieved a new record by loading 68.12 million tonnes earning an all-time high revenue of little over Rs 9,000 crore as on March 25.
“We are expecting to finish the financial year with a gross revenue of Rs 9,231 crore considering an average daily earning of Rs 30 crore,” Divisional Railway Manager A K Satpathy told Bizz Buzz on Sunday. He said they are confident of finishing off the financial year with a signature style of earnings. The division earned revenue of Rs 8,498 crore during last fiscal.
As on March 20, the division could achieve best-ever freight loading of 67 million tonnes 11 days ahead of financial year closing. The division loaded more than 66.92 million tonnes in the last 11 months and 20 days, which surpassed the previous record. This was 13.35 per cent more than the previous year (2021-2022), during which time it had the best-ever record loading of 66.88 million tonnes.
The division could do well despite acute shortage of wagons, natural disasters, frequent blocks for carrying safety works in connection with new double line works and major derailments in the critical Kottavalasa-Kirandul line-considered the lifeline for the zone due to transportation of iron ore from Bailadilla mines of NMDC in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.
Satpathy complimented the team that indulged in this achievement and the relentless efforts of the employees. Appreciating the team, the DRM said that “all the credit goes to my hard working team led by Senior Divisional Operations Manager, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager and other branch officers. There is remarkable contribution by the division by taking initiatives to enhance the business despite several constraints.”
Waltair division also achieved best-ever non-fare revenue to the tune of Rs 5.52 crore in the current financial year. The division has surpassed the target of Rs 5.5 crore set by the Railway Board 10 days ahead of financial year closure. This was 71.65 per cent more than the previous year (2021-2022), which was Rs 3.21 crore.
