Visakhapatnam Police thwarted an attempt by hundreds of employees of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to protest during the visit of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to Visakhapatnam on Friday evening.
The police took them into custody before they marched to the airport in batches to stage a protest on her arrival. Heavy police force was deployed to foil attempts to protest and submit a memorandum to oppose privatisation of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, the corporate entity of VSP.
A senior police official told Bizz Buzz that they were prevented from going to airport due to prohibition orders.
"It's unfortunate that we were arrested when we wanted protest peacefully and submit a representation to FM against privatisation of RINL," VSP recognised union president J. Ayodharam said.
