Visakhapatnam: THE employees of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) - the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Tuesday abstained from work demanding wage revision and rollback of decision on privatisation.
While Visakha Ukku Parirakshana Porata Samiti formed by all the unions said the strike was total, the management claimed only 50 per cent of employees abstained from work. A company spokesman said normal operations remained unaffected.
The notice for one-day strike was served by recognised union president J Ayodharam and 10 other unions demanding wage revision due from January 1, 2017, minimum guaranteed benefit of 15 per cent and withdrawal of decision on RINL privatisation.
Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) on January 29 gave in-principle clearance for the sale of RINL, its subsidiaries and joint ventures by way of privatisation.
Though the unions had earlier given a call to go on one-day strike on May 6, they had deferred it due to outbreak of second wave of Covid-19.
