Hyderabad Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), an initiative of the Confederation of India Industry (CII), said Telangana Government on its recommendation introduced the Telangana Cool Roof Policy 2023-2028. With this, the State has become a pioneer to implement the strategic initiative aimed at mitigating the heat island effect and reducing energy consumption.
‘Urban Heat Islands’ is a pressing issue, with Indian cities experiencing elevated temperatures that are 5-7 degree Celsius higher than rural areas on summer nights. Telangana’s visionary Cool Roof Policy addresses these challenges by focusing on making buildings thermally comfortable and heat resilient, thereby reducing energy consumption and operational costs.
“The Telangana Cool Roof Policy reflects the State’s commitment to green initiatives and demonstrates visionary leadership in combating climate change. By adopting green building measures, we can build a sustainable future for generations to come,” C Shekar Reddy, Chairman, IGBC Hyderabad Chapter said.
Government of Telangana has adopted the Green Building concepts in the design of most of the government buildings and facilities.
Reddy further said that with the latest developments in product and technologies for Green Buildings the cost of constructing a green building has significantly reduced. M Anand, Deputy Executive Director, IGBC, informed about IGBC Green Property show that is being held at Hitex Exhibition Halls from July 28 to 30, 2023. “We have a range of Green Pro certified products to implement the Cool Roof Policy.
