Role of digital tech discussed at meeting on HR

Visakhapatnam A two-day national conference on "Beyond the Pandemic-The Way Forward for HR-The Road to Digital Transformation of HR" was inaugurated at Visakhapatnam Steel Plant on Friday.

RINL Director (Finance) V.V. Venugopal Rao in his inaugural address said post-COVID digital transformation has gained momentum.

RINL-Vizag Steel and Indian Society for Training and Development (ISTD), Visakhapatnam Chapter are jointly organising the two-day conference.

Rao said post COVID work environment and work culture are seeing a big change in many industries. Small offices are going to be the norm and another trend that shall creep in is mini office space in residences to facilitate work from home.

HR may have to gear up for such a kind of working culture and put in place suitable policies, he added.

He mentioned that HR has a new role to play now in shaping the digital identity of an organisation by suitably shaping behaviours and competencies of people who can take full advantage of ongoing digital transformation.

HR needs to develop its own digital competence to understand the business context of digital transformation and at the same time understand the unique learning and development needs of employees in evolving digital business environment post COVID-19, he stated.

Suraj Chettri, HR Head, Airbus gave the keynote address during the inaugural session.

Special guests Deb Kalyan Mohanty, Director (Commercial) & Director (Personnel)-(additiobal charge), AK Saxena, Director (Operations), RINL, and Kurien Daniel, national vice president, ISTD spoke on the occasion.

The dignitaries later released a special "Souvenir" on this occasion.

Dr. Nataraj Ray, national president, ISTD gave the presidential remarks. Prof. N. Sambasiva Rao, regional vice-president (South), ISTD spoke about objectives of the conference.
