Hyderabad: The Telangana unit of Congress party has alleged corruption charges of Rs 50 crore against the ruling party’s roads and buildings minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy.

Addressing a gathering in Yergatla in Prashanth Reddy’s Balkonda assembly constituency, TPCC president Revanth Reddy demanded for an investigation in the contracts of Telangana Martyrs Memorial, Ambedkar statue and the new Secretariat complex. Revanth accused the minister of receiving kickbacks of Rs 50 crore. “Prashant Reddy will be behind the bars if an inquiry is conducted on the escalation of cost of three projects. In five years, the budget for Martyrs Memorial soar to Rs 200 crore from Rs 62 crore in 2018,” he said.

The statement was made during a padayatra organised by Congress under ‘Yatra for Change.’

TPCC president in its poll assurance to farmers said that if the party is voted to power it will give a boost to the sugar industry. “On January 1, 2024, the Congress party will be in power. We will open the sugar mill within six months of coming to power. Steps will be taken to cultivate sugarcane in 10 lakh acres.”

Slamming the BRS party, Revanth Reddy said the farmers were threatened with police case for attending the Congress meeting. “However, the farmers were not afraid of false case being filed against them. Farmers here should get their rights with the spirit of Haryana farmers. They led the sugarcane industries in the combined State. But after Telangana was formed, KCR closed down the sugar industry here. This area has a history of defeating Kavitha and we will end your family’s political career,” he stated.

The other vows of the party included support price of Rs 12,000 for the turmeric crop, Rs 4,000 for red sorghum, Rs 2,200 for maize and Rs 2,500 for paddy.
