Visakhapatnam: In an environment-friendly initiative, National Research Development Corporation (NRDC) under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology joined the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) Green as a partner to give a push to innovation by getting access to the latter’s green technology database globally. WIPO Green is an online platform for technology exchange. This is also recognised as a marketplace for sustainable technology administered by the WIPO of the United Nation to promote environment-friendly innovation and the diffusion of green technologies.
NRDC as India’s premier technology transfer entity has been serving the nation for more than six decades in technology information, technology transfer and IP management with the objective to promote, develop and commercialise the technologies, know-how, inventions, patents, processes emanating from various national R&D institutions/universities.
NRDC has forged strong links with the scientific and industrial community in India and abroad and developed a wide network of research institutions, academia and industry and made formal arrangements with them for the commercialisation of know-how developed in their laboratories.
NRDC has transferred and licensed the indigenous innovative technology to over 5,000 entrepreneurs. NRDC and WIPO Green are expected to look forward to contributing to the common goal of technology transfer related to climate change, dissemination of environmentally sound technologies and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
It is one of the most important challenges that NRDC contributes to environmental conservation across all of technology networking and business activities nationally and globally. While emphasising on the development, Commodore Amit Rastogi (retired), CMD of NRDC said “we being the leading technology transfer organisation under the Ministry of Science and Technology look forward to have an active engagement with respect to WIPO Greens charter and contribute to bring green technologies, serving UN SDGs, to the fore. I am confident that we can fulfill these objectives especially at a time when India is enjoying the Presidency of G20 under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

WIPO Green matches green technology providers with technology-seekers through its online database of green technologies (patents, products and knowhow) listed by participating organisations and promotes utilisation of green technologies. It supports global efforts to address climate change by connecting providers and seekers of environment-friendly technologies.
