Hyderabad-based Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) has bagged a Rs 2,960-crore contract to supply the Indian Navy with Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM). The Ministry of Defence (MoD) signed an agreement with BDL today.
BDL is a public sector enterprise under the MoD.
An official press release said the contract was inked by MoD officials and BDL executives in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh in New Delhi.
The MRSAM system is a standard fit onboard multiple Indian Naval Ships. It is planned to be fitted on most future platforms that would be acquired. The contract marks a critical milestone in the ongoing efforts to bolster India’s defence capabilities and indigenize advanced military technology.
The release added BDL would supply the missiles under the Buy (Indian) category with largely indigenous content, emphasizing Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The contract would generate employment of 3.5 lakh man-days in the defence industry, including various MSMEs.
