The health care system in India has been under severe stress for the past two years due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Although the immediate measures taken by the Central and State Governments and the tireless efforts of the health care workers have provided a strong response to the pandemic, it is also very clear that we need to significantly enhance healthcare infrastructure in the country.
In the wake of the chaotic economic conditions of the people due to the pandemic, it is imperative to provide all lifesaving drugs to all strata of people at affordable prices, and free of cost to those who cannot afford to pay. In addition to providing health care to the public, there is a need to develop a long-term approach to put in place a system to combat future pandemics. In Budget 2023, we look forward to the Government allocating maximum possible amount of funds for development, purchase and distribution of Covid-19 vaccines and development of healthcare delivery as a whole is of prime importance.
