Visakhapatnam: NTPC Simhadri Super Thermal Power Station is contemplating increasing its solar power production capacity by establishing a new facility to generate 18.75 MW at an estimated investment of Rs 100 crore.
NTPC Chief General Manager and Simhadri Plant Business Unit Head Sanjay Kumar Sinha told reporters here on Friday that at present they are generating 25 MW of solar power from its floating solar photovoltaic project. He disclosed that the flue gas de-sulphurisation plant involving an investment of Rs 871 crore (excluding GST) is expected to be commissioned by December, 2024.
He said NTPC is India's largest power conglomerate with roots planted way back in 1975 to accelerate power development in the country, has established itself as the dominant power major with presence in the entire value chain of the power generation business. Today NTPC is an energy giant with total installed capacity of 73,874 MW (including JVs). "Our presence in the entire value chain of the power generation business speaks volumes about our capacity to deliver and excel. In the field of power generation, we create records and break it subsequently. Only NTPC can break NTPC’s records," said Sinha.
Describing NTPC Simhadri is a jewel in the crown of City Of Destiny, he said they have ensured 100 per cent utilisation of ash generated by the power plant for five years ago. This year also the same record will continue, he said adding they generate ash at the rate of 35 per cent of total coal consumed by them.
