IGBC Hosts Green Building Leadership Dialogue In Hyd

Hyderabad: The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC) hosted the Green Building Leadership Dialogue, an impactful event at the CII–Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Hyderabad, to advance India’s green building movement.
Bringing together over 80 stakeholders, including developers, builders, engineers, and consultants, the event aimed to bolster sustainable practices in construction and real estate while positioning Telangana as a leader in sustainable development.
Keynote speakers included IGBC National Chairman B Thiagarajan, National Vice Chairman C Shekar Reddy, and IGBC Hyderabad Chapter Chairman Srinivasa Murthy. They emphasised the pivotal role of innovative practices, green policies, and collaborative efforts in driving India’s sustainable growth trajectory.
Thiagarajan lauded Telangana's green leadership, stating, “Telangana has set benchmarks in sustainable development with initiatives like mandatory ECBC compliance, water harvesting, and daylight-friendly designs. Through IGBC’s guidance, these efforts have demonstrated impactful and achievable results without heavy reliance on incentives.”
The state ranks fifth in India with over 980 IGBC-certified projects covering 1.3 billion sq. ft of green building space. These contributions are part of India’s broader achievements, which include 15,042 green projects spanning 13.04 billion sq. ft, with over 150 being NET ZERO developments.
IGBC-certified projects have collectively saved 64.3 billion units of energy, 198 billion liters of water, and prevented 51.4 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions. Telangana’s commitment to ECBC compliance and sustainability-focused designs was praised as a model for other states.
