Wipro, HCL Technologies enter Hurun Global 500 list
Bengaluru August 21 IT services major Wipro and HCL Technologies have entered the Hurun Global 500 list for the first time as the market cap of these companies saw a sharp rise amid rising investors' interest.
Hurun Global 500 is a list of the 500 most valuable non-state-controlled companies in the world.
A total of 12 Indian firms figured in the list, pushing India above Australia to the ninth position. US topped the list with 243 companies (up by one), followed by China 47 (down by four). Japan was in the third with 30 companies making it to the list, while the UK was fourth with 24 firms.
Among Indian companies, Reliance Industries Ltd topped the list with a market capitalization of $188 billion. This was followed by IT services major Tata Consultancy Services with $164 billion and HDFC Bank with $113 billion of market cap.
Apart from Wipro and HCL Technologies, Asian Paints is another company to enter the Hurun list for the first time. Thesenew entrants, Wipro, Asian Paints and HCL Technologies featured at 457th, 477th and 498th spots, respectively.
The world's top six valuable companies in the list remained unchanged as Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Facebook and Tencent retaining their positions.
Among sectors, metals & mining led the list with 56 per cent increase in value on the back of a surge in copper and iron ore prices, followed by energy which was up 31 per cent.Companies operating in media & entertainment sector saw 28 per cent rise in their values. However, hospitality sector was down 17 per cent as the pandemic badly hit the industry.
