Bengaluru, 19 July: India’s top two IT services firms- Tata Consultancy Services and Infosys are all set to recruit around 55,000-60,000 freshers in the current financial year, after a lull seen last year.

According to management of these two companies, both companies are visiting the campuses this year for such recruitment.

On Thursday, Infosys said that it is planning to hire 15,000-20,000 freshers through campus placement in the current financial year.

“As our utilisation level has touched around 85 per cent, there is less scope for more improvement. We will start headcount addition from this quarter. We will go to campuses as we plan to hire 15,000-20,000 freshers this fiscal year,” Jayesh Sanghrajka, CFO at Infosys has said in the post results press conference.

Earlier, India’s top IT firm- TCS has said that around 40,000 freshers are likely to be hired in the ongoing fiscal year.

“We have onboarded around 11,000 freshers this quarter. While it is difficult to say how many freshers will be hired, but it should be around 40,000 like previous years,” Milind Lakkad, Chief HR Officer of TCS has said.

Meanwhile, companies have also started adopting agile mode of hiring wherein they are recruiting people as and when project work comes up. Infosys’ management has said that they are following an agile approach to hiring in which many candidates are hired through off-campus route.

Hiring in the last fiscal year was hit as the top four IT firms reduced their headcount by more than 70,000 employees. Fresher hiring had come to a halt owing to this reason. Even many freshers experienced undue delay in onboarding long after receiving their offer letters.

However, things are slowly changing for better as large IT firms are resuming fresher hiring after a year of lull.
