A lot of our companies are global. So, they really are looking for optimization of right skills. 10 years ago, it was about labour arbitrage. Today, it is about the ability to get these skills at scale, Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture, had said during the conference call

Bengaluru: Hiring prospects are improving in the IT sector with Indian and global IT firms are expected to recruit more people in 2025. Recent Q1 results of Accenture and commentary of top Indian IT services companies reflect this optimism. According to sources in the HR industry, 2025 is likely to be a better year than 2024 as demand environment shows early signs of improvement.

For the quarter ended November, Accenture added around 24,000 people with most employees being added in India. Company’s management has said that hiring was about business momentum.

“We did add about 24,000 people in the first quarter, which is really reflective of the momentum that we see in our business. And what you see is the continued high utilisation rates at around 90 per cent. Looking ahead, we’ll continue to hire for the demand that we see and the skills that we need. And I’ll give you a little bit more context that the hiring that we saw this quarter, similar to last was that it was concentrated in India,” Angie Park, Chief Financial Officer of Accenture told the analysts in post results conference call.

Similarly, Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture said that some of employee addition was coming from acquisitions.

Not only Accenture, some Indian IT firms have also started evaluating their hiring plans for the ongoing financial year (FY25). Reportedly, TCS is planning to hire more freshers in FY25 as compared to 40,000 planned earlier. Sources in the know said that many companies have started planning for next year hiring.

“Usually, the planning process for next year hiring begins now. All indications are there that next year hiring is likely to be better than this year because, demand environment is showing an uptick in the US. If tax rate cuts happen under Trump administration, then this will definitely lead to higher technology spending and subsequent hiring in offshore locations like India,”an expert in HR said.

Earlier, Infosys has said it is planning to recruit 15,000-20,000 freshers in the ongoing financial year, while Wipro is planning to hire around 10,000-12,000 fresh graduates this year. HCLTech is also likely to recruit about 10,000 freshers. Meanwhile, global firms are now hiring in India for talent than only cost arbitrage.

“A lot of our companies are global. So, they really are looking for optimization of right skills. 10 years ago, it was about labour arbitrage. Today, it is about the ability to get these skills at scale,” Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture has said during the conference call.
