‘EY’s credibility at risk after staffer’s death’
GIEAIA raises concern over EY’s advisory role on productivity, efficiency, and work culture to Public Sector General Insurance Companies after the recent death incident
‘EY’s credibility at risk after staffer’s death’
Mumbai: The trade union leaders have raised concern over EY’s advisory role on productivity, efficiency, and work culture to Public Sector General Insurance Companies (PSGICs) after recent death of its staffer in Pune. The idea of roping in the services of EY for PSGICs was mooted by a former joint secretary in the Department of Financial Services.
Talking to Bizz Buzz, Trilok Singh, General Secretary, GIEAIA, said: “We are deeply saddened by the news of a 26-year-old employee, who passed away due to over work at EY, and the company’s failure to attend her funeral. This incident is particularly disturbing given EY’s advisory role on productivity, efficiency, and work culture to PSGIC.” The General Insurance Employees All India Association (GIEAIA) condemns this unfortunate incident and demands an independent inquiry by the Government of India. We also express our deepest condolences to the departed soul, he said.
Furthermore, we have concerns regarding the actions of a former Joint Secretary from the Department of Financial Services (DFS), who resigned following complaints of influencing reinsurance business, promotions and the subordinate officials for undue advantages. It appears this individual is once again exerting influence on DFS and General Insurance Public Sector Association (GIPSA) officials, promoting a private company’s software valued at Rs400-500 crore without an open tender.
“We have consistently advocated for the merger of all four PSGIC companies. However, we are alarmed by the undue influence of external forces on DFS and GIPSA, circumventing established procedures and audit requirements for IT investments exceeding Rs1 crore,” he said.
“We direct GIEAIA leadership to engage with the management of NIC, OIC, NIA, UIIC, and GIC to address this matter. We also appeal to the constituents of JFTU to scrutinize this issue and safeguard the interests of all.”
GIEAIA leadership is closely monitoring the situation and will take effective measures in the interest of PSGIC and all concerned.
