Visakhapatnam: THE construction work of the new campus of Indian Institute of Management-Visakhapatnam popular as IIM-V is progressing at brisk pace as part of its phase-I project at a cost of Rs.445 crore.
For the campus development which includes layout and other infrastructure required for a futuristic campus, an extent of 241.5 acres surrounded with lush-green hillocks at Gambheeram, on the outskirts of Visakhapatnam city has been allotted after the premier institute was sanctioned by the NDA Government in Andhra Pradesh post-bifurcation in 2014.
"We will complete work on phase-I and move to our permanent campus by year-end. Clear timelines have been set for construction of the classrooms, administrative block, student hostels, cafeteria and other facilities," IIM-V Director Prof M Chandrasekhar told Bizz Buzz. He said they were laying emphasis on meeting the requirement of the industries in rolling out futuristic managers and offering short-term courses to corporate executives and government officials for their career progression.
In phase-I, a built-up area of 60,384 sq. meters will be created. NBCC (India) Limited has been appointed as the Project Management Consultant as per the designs made by noted architecture firm Arcop Associates Pvt. Ltd. Shapoorji Pallonji and Company is the EPC contractor. The project has already obtained five-star rating for integrated habitat assessment based on design features by the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA). There will be no cost overrun for the project as priorities have been set before taking up work on the project.
Green campus
Prof Chandrasekhar said it would be a 100 per cent green campus with provision for recycling of used water, underground cabling and drainage. "It will be a water positive and energy positive campus. Solar power plant will be set up to meet the campus requirement. E-cycles will be provided with designated parking areas and charging stations to ensure zero vehicular pollution.
Initially, the campus will have all the facilities required for an estimated 600 students. At present, the model administration office, students' rooms and guest rooms have been created at the project site. The progress of work is being videographed and monitored on a daily basis. At present, IIM-V has two sections of MBA with each having strength of 60 students. One more section is being sanctioned. For the executive MBA third batch classes are being conducted. For executive management courses sponsored candidates from the government and corporates are evincing a lot of interest as IIM-V. It has emerged as most sought-after new generation IIM in the country. Once the campus is ready, the institute has plans to conduct short-term customised residential programmes for various departments/institutes and corporates.
