Visakhapatnam: Indian Institute of Management Visakhapatnam has started the third batch of Post Graduate Programme in Digital Governance and Management (PGP-DGM) in virtual mode.

Prof Milan Kumar, Admissions Chair, IIM-Visakhapatnam, welcomed the new batch on Saturday and gave details of the batch profile. The selected cohort went through a rigorous 3-phase admission process to secure a seat in the 2-year DGM program. The batch comprises mostly senior Central Government employees with work experience between 7-15 years.

The batch has representation from 13 States of India. Ajay Sawhney, Secretary, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), was the chief guest for the event. He delivered the inaugural address in which he emphasized the importance of digital governance being implemented widely in every sector that includes agriculture to wellness. He also spoke about how adapting to new technologies will enhance the Indian start-up ecosystem.

He explained the significance of digital services in today's dynamic world and their contributory role to the realisation of the 1 trillion-dollar digital economy.

Delivering the keynote address, Abhishek Singh, President and CEO, NeGD, MeitY, GoI, spoke about the importance of the many achievements of the country in the digital space. He explained about the immense potential of the course where the students can work on real-life projects of NeGD.

He also lauded the students of the 2019-21 batch who undertook an international immersion module to Estonia, that gave the students an opportunity to broaden their learning through in-class sessions and industry visits on digital transformation and best practices in the advancement of digital governance.

Prof M Chandrasekhar, Director, IIM-Visakhapatnam gave an overview of the PGP-DGM program and spoke about its accomplishments and progress. He cited examples of how digital transformation is gaining pace with the growth of the IT industry and the fillip it received in the recent union budget. He congratulated the students for securing admission into the prestigious program. The PGP-DGM program was launched under the aegis of the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), MeitY, It is designed to provide customized training in digitalization to experienced professionals and catalyse wider footprint and impact of digital India.

Prof Neena Pandey, Chair of the PGP-DGM Committee, welcomed the guests and announced the merit awards to the first PGP-DGM batch students who emerged at the top in academic performance and figured in the Director's Merit List. The event was attended by Program Advisory Committee members, faculty, staff, and students.
