We need to focus on budgeting on research & infrastructure development in medical education and healthcare, so that our students are well-equipped with skills and knowledge required to provide quality healthcare - Shashidhar, MD, Kamineni Hospitals
Hyderabad: In the Union Budget 2025, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced plans to increase medical seats by 75,000 seats over next five years and 10,000 seats in the next financial year. These steps will bridge gap in availability of healthcare professionals in India, said Kamineni Shashidhar, Managing Director, Kamineni Hospitals.
“It is a welcome decision which will improve India’s healthcare professional gap. At the same time, it has been observed that due to sudden increase in medical colleges in the past two to three years, there is a significant vacuum related to good teaching and infrastructure in new colleges which is affecting the quality of students being trained,” he said. It would be pertinent to say that we need to focus on budgeting on Research & Infrastructure development in medical education and healthcare, so that our students are well-equipped with skills and knowledge required to provide quality healthcare. Only then we can truly reap the benefits of increased medical seats, he added.
