NXplorers Carnival organised by Smile Foundation in Nellore turned into a spectacle of brilliance where 108 meritorious students selected from various government schools of Nellore district showcased their innovative ideas in the areas of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), on Friday.
A total of 43 “change projects” were exhibited, which were finally selected from hundreds of entries. NXplorers Junior Programme is a global flagship Social Investment STEM educational initiative from Shell, which aims to benefit school children by enabling them to understand, navigate and address local and global challenges, as underlined in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The programme is also aligned with the National Education Policy 2020.
“Young minds will prosper with experiential learning and its application. The STEM approach of education gives limitless opportunities in shaping up the children’s ideas. We welcome and thank Smile Foundation and Shell India for their commitment to the cause of nurturing young minds and developing future scientists,” said Dr Ravi Aruna, Science Lecturer, State Institute of Educational Management and Training.
Smile Foundation has been implementing the programme in 203 schools in Nellore and Tirupati districts of Andhra Pradesh, Khammam and the erstwhile Warangal districts of Telangana, and Thrissur district of Kerala. It is benefiting 25,000 school students in the age group of 10 to 12 years in the academic grades of 6 and 7.
During the district level carnival of Nellore, a majority of the projects had a common sensitivity towards conservation and optimal utilisation of water, energy and food, besides eco-friendly usage resources in daily life.
A river-cleaner solar boat project made by KNR MCHS BV Nagar, Nellore was designed to make river water clean. A crop protection system developed by BVS MC Girls HS Nawabpet had an in-built sensor which was aimed to protect plants from getting ruined by excessive rain.
