BEE urges Southern States to boost star labeling efforts

Highlights Rs 30,000 crore savings from star labeling programme, calls for greater adoption

Vijayawada: Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) under the Ministry of Power has appealed to the Southern States, including pro-active State of Andhra Pradesh to intensify efforts in promoting star labeling programme. The initiative empowers consumers, fuels electricity savings, driving towards greener future. Since inception, standards & labeling (S&L) programme helps to achieve huge electricity savings translating to over Rs 30,000 crore in the country, according to an estimate.

Energy Department Special Chief Secretary K Vijayanand highlighted State’s commitment on green energy to meet future demands, promote energy efficiency.

He said this during a meeting on Sunday. As part of meetings with State Designated Agencies (SDAs) in Southern States, including SDA of Andhra Pradesh State Energy Conservation Mission (APSECM), BEE Adviser (Southern States/UTs) A Chandra Sekhara Reddy along with CEO, APSECM BAV Kumar Reddy submitted a detailed report of energy efficiency including S&L to Vijayanand and explained about the impact of S&L in particular.

In this connection, welcoming BEE’s appeal during an interaction, Vijayanand emphasised the State Government’s unwavering commitment to the energy sector.

“Under the leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, AP prioritises the provision of 24x7 quality power supply adhering to global standards,” he said. He highlighted the State’s focus on green energy to meet future demands, underscoring the government’s dedication of promoting energy efficiency as part of its broader strategy to ensure energy security with environmental consciousness.

“The State Government is fully committed to promoting all energy efficiency programmes with the utmost dedication,” said Vijayanand. “These efforts are not only beneficial to the State and its power sector but also crucial for electricity consumers, economic development, and environmental improvement,” he said.
