chennai: The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) aims to push Mission LiFE into every Indian household to ensure that 80 per cent of the villages and urban areas adopt sustainable practices by 2028.
As part of BEE’s commitment to the implementation of Mission LiFE, it has emphasised the need for a three-pronged strategy which includes, Public and Private Engagement by establishment of energy conservation cells in Government bodies and organisations, besides nominating nodal officers to monitor the progress of Energy Efficiency and Conservation.
BEE also aims to strengthen energy clubs at schools by appointing school principals as chairpersons to promote energy efficiency. The third strategy includes media awareness campaigns by utilising print, electronic, FM radio, and social media for effective dissemination of the strategies.
BEE is driving a nationwide rollout of Mission LiFE, urging Southern state governments to champion climate-conscious economy. This initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of fostering sustainable practices, moving away from ‘use-and-throw’ model.
Related to this drive, Media Advisor for Southern States and Union Territories met with the Chairman and Managing Director of Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation (TNPDC), along with the Chief of State Designated Agency (SDA), to discuss special strategies.
Milind Deore, Secretary, BEE (under the Ministry of Power, Government of India), had earlier underscored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for Mission LiFE, which seeks to reshape environmental practices through mindful consumption and a circular economy. After releasing a poster on Mission LIFE, the BEE Secretary said that Mission LiFE aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG-12), advocating lifestyles that harmonize with available resources.
