How a Bengaluru man outsmarts fake Flipkart delivery executive
A Bengaluru resident nearly fell victim to an online shopping scam involving a fraudulent delivery attempt. In a post on Reddit, he detailed how a scammer, posing as a Flipkart delivery agent, tried to deliver a sealed box that was allegedly supposed to contain the iPhone 15 he had ordered.
According to the Reddit user, his sister had purchased an iPhone 15 with 256GB of storage and opted for an "open box" delivery option. This delivery method allows customers to inspect the contents of a sealed package before accepting it, which is commonly offered by online marketplaces like Flipkart and Amazon to ensure product authenticity and prevent delivery of damaged or counterfeit items.
However, when the alleged delivery agent arrived with a large package, he insisted that the customer accept it without inspecting the contents, which raised suspicion. “This loser (the man in white) came with a big package claiming that he can't do an open box delivery,” the user wrote.
When the Redditor began recording the interaction, the scammer quickly fled the scene. Just minutes later, a genuine Flipkart delivery executive arrived with the actual iPhone 15, confirming that the original package would indeed allow for inspection before acceptance. “I told his partners in crime in Kannada that I have recorded everything. I did not accept the package, and within two minutes, the real delivery guy came and delivered a very small package, ensuring we could inspect it,” he explained.
The Reddit post gained significant traction, receiving over 1,000 likes, with many commenters expressing relief that the user recognized the red flags of the scam. “Glad you knew something was off and recorded everything. It’s very hard to trust Flipkart now,” one user remarked.
