Ahead of the biggest festive sale of the year, Amazon and Flipkart (whose majority of stakes are owned by Walmart) are facing scrutiny from India’s antitrust regulator, the Competition Commission of India (CCI).

The e-commerce giants have been accused of breaking competition laws by charging predatory pricing and giving preferential treatment to a limited number of sellers.

According to an exclusive report by the news agency Reuters, CCI investigators have submitted a 1027-page report on Amazon and a separate 1,696-page report on Flipkart.

The Supreme Court has also weighed in on the matter, refusing to grant interim relief to Amazon and Flipkart in a separate case related to the India antitrust probe. This has emboldened the CCI to continue its investigation, which could lead to penalties or even a ban on the companies' operations in India.

According to reports, neither the companies nor CCI respond immediately to Reuter's query. They have previously denied any wrongdoing and said their practices are in line with laws and regulations.
