Vijayawada: THE Centre has given environmental clearance to the Kadapa Steel Plant proposed as the joint venture by the Andhra Pradesh Government.

The State recently selected Liberty Steel India belonging to Liberty Group as the joint venture partner for construction and development of the steel plant. The Cabinet has already approved allotment of over 3,000 acres for the integrated steel plant at the rate of 1.65 lakh per acre. The project is envisaged with a total investment of Rs 10,082 crore in first phase and Rs 6,000 crore in second phase.

The State has formed YSR Steel Corporation Ltd (erstwhile AP High Grade Steels Ltd) at Sunnapurallapalle and Peddananduluru villages in Kadapa district to produce three mn tonne steel per annum. A power plant to generate 84.7 MW in the first phase is also proposed. Under the green belt development on 34%, which is 484.4 hectares, was allocated to plant 12.10 lakh seedlings.
