Mumbai: Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB), which was scheduled to conduct the interactions on Tuesday (May 21) for the new Chairman of SBI in New Delhi, has been postponed it, two different sources familiar with the development told Bizz Buzz. The reason for the postponement of the interaction was not immediately known at the time of filing of this story.

Three out of the four serving MDs of India’s largest lender, State Bank of India (SBI), are in fray for the post of the bank’s Chairman.

Post interview, the headhunter for directors of state-owned banks and financial institutions, will recommend the name for the SBI Chairman. The present SBI Chairman, Dinesh Khara will be superannuating on August 28 when he turns 63, which also happens to be the upper age limit for the SBI Chairman position. However, the FSIB was yet to announce the fresh date for the interactions, the sources said.

The three MDs of the bank who had been invited for the interaction include CS Setty, Ashwini Tewari and Vinay Tonse. The fourth MD of the bank, Alok Choudhary, was not invited for the interview as he will be superannuating on June 30.

As per norms, post interaction, FSIB recommends the name for SBI Chairman’s post to Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC), headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

FSIB is headed by Bhanu Pratap Sharma, former secretary of Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). The members of the government-appointed selection panel are Financial Services Secretary, Department of Public Enterprises Secretary and an RBI Deputy Governor.

Other members of the headhunter are Animesh Chauhan, former chairman and MD of erstwhile Oriental Bank of Commerce, RBI’s ex-executive director Deepak Singhal, and Shailendra Bhandari, former MD of erstwhile ING Vysya Bank.
