Technical glitch hits Delhi Airport T1 amid terminal shift

A brief technical glitch disrupted check-in operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) Terminal 1 (T1) on Tuesday, causing delays for passengers.
The issue occurred on a day when all flights from Terminal 2 (T2) had been shifted to T1 for maintenance work. This sudden increase in traffic at T1 added to the operational challenge.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL), the airport operator, confirmed the issue in a post on X at 12:50 PM, stating, “We experienced a technical issue at T1 check-in. Our team, along with stakeholders, is working on it, and operations are normalizing. We regret the inconvenience caused.”
An official later clarified that the problem was related to the baggage belt system, but it was resolved quickly.
Earlier at 11:51 AM, airline IndiGo had alerted passengers on X about possible delays at T1, citing a temporary baggage belt failure which could affect check-in and baggage collection times.
Currently, T1 and T3 remain operational at IGIA. The airport, which has four runways, has one runway closed for maintenance. Previously, only IndiGo and Akasa Air operated flights from T2 — a terminal built nearly four decades ago.
The upgraded T1 now has the capacity to handle 40 million passengers annually, while T3 can accommodate up to 45 million. T2, before its closure, managed 15 million passengers per year.
